The use of bioacoustic recorders capable of operating 24/7 for weeks and months in total autonomy on a glacier—placed inside crevasses and in direct contact with the surface—is an unprecedented operation.


The collected sound data, in addition to serving as valuable testimony for future generations, hold independent scientific value. They provide information that is difficult to obtain with more traditional instruments, enabling the verification of hypotheses and parameters within mathematical models that predict glacier evolution. This contributes to the development of new methodologies for the protection and preservation of endangered habitats.
